A Small Act That Sparked a Big Change
Liu Zhongda used to see himself as a pragmatic and goal-driven individual who rarely let irrelevant matters distract him. However, one small, seemingly insignificant moment in his life changed him.
One day, a mirror at home accidentally broke. While cleaning it up, Liu’s wife carefully wrapped the broken glass in multiple layers of paper, placed it in a sturdy bag, and labeled it with “Caution Please, Broken Glass.” The cleaning process took two minutes, but the wrapping took twenty. Liu, puzzled, asked, “Why go through so much trouble?” His wife replied, “Just to ensure no one gets hurt.”
“That moment touched me,” Liu said. “I realized that a small thing we overlook can sometimes cause inconvenience or even harm to others. Since then, I’ve decided to do my part in making life a little easier for those around me, one small act at a time.”
From Participant to Public Service Leader
黑料吃瓜网’s Kunshan Industrial Park is a vibrant hub for public service, where dedicated volunteers organize a variety of activities to give back to the community. Liu’s journey into public service began here. Starting as a participant, he gradually grew into a key organizer, spreading the ripple effect of kindness through his acts.
Over the past year, Liu and his team have planned and organized a series of public benefit activities, from employee well-being initiatives (spring outings, movie nights, library corners, and fitness challenges) to family-focused programs (parent-child science explorations and industrial study tours) and community support projects (book donation, charity runs for the visually impaired, and charity sales). Like a stone cast into a pond, Liu’s efforts created ripples that inspired more and more people to get involved.
Spreading Positivity Through Action
Like any endeavor, public service comes with its challenges. Liu encountered obstacles such as scheduling conflicts and low participation rates. However, the support and encouragement of his team motivated him to keep going.
“In the beginning, I was upset when participation was low,” Liu admitted. “But then I realized, even if just one person benefits from an event, it’s a success. What matters is taking action.”
This realization led Liu to refine his approach. By conducting surveys to better understand participants’ needs and expectations, he ensured that every activity was meaningful and engaging.
One notable success came from a fitness campaign organized by Liu’s team. Initially, participants were reluctant to join. However, through events like “Wednesday Fitness Days,” “Seasonal Competitions, and “Friendly Sports Matches”, many developed a love for exercise. One participant even lost over 30 pounds, regaining their health and confidence along the way.
Believing in the Power of Ripples
Reflecting on his journey, Liu shared a profound insight: “As long as we’re doing the right thing, time will give us the answers.”
One memorable moment came during the summer “Cooling Campaign.” While conducting outdoor tests on a hot day, Liu found himself thirsty but unable to get water nearby. Just then, a colleague handed him a drink—the very “Cooling Campaign” he had organized. “At that moment, I truly felt the power of kindness,” Liu said.
